A Silent Masterpiece by F.W. Murnau
The earliest surviving screen adaptation of Bram Stoker's Dracula novel has had a long and
dangerous life of its own. Almost destroyed by Stoker's widow because of copyright infringement,
this film has outlasted many others of the silent era. There are many new releases of Nosferatu and all
this goes to show that, "You can't keep a good vampire down."
THIS JUST IN: Silent Orchestra returns to the AFI Silver Theater in Silver Spring, MD for two screenings of Nosferatu.
The shows are Friday Oct. 30, 2009 at 7:00 and 9:30 PM. keyboardist Carlos Garza and percussionist Rich O'Meara--will
once again accompany NOSFERATU with their acclaimed original score, by turns dreamlike, ambient, thundering and hell-bent.
RIP: At the age of 96, the last surviving silent era accompanist has passed away.
Bob Mitchell (1912-2009) began his first career as a silent film accompanist at the age of 12!
Everyone who saw him accompany Nosferatu (1922) at the Silent Movie Theater in Hollywood in the past few years knew he was the real thing.

According
to sources, the Bran Castle was recently restored and
ownership transferred
to a descendant
of the Habsburg dynasty, rulers of Austria-Hungary.
It is thought that Bram Stoker's
Dracula character was modeled after Vlad the Impaler, a fifteenth century Romanian prince known for his sharp wit, pointed attacks and a generally bad temper.
Some believe he was a frequent visitor to the castle
and for that reason, it is commonly known as
“Dracula’s Castle” in Romania.
